Risk Prevention and Wellness

ZBT wants brothers to have a fun, safe and healthy fraternity experience where all brothers are treated as equals and have all the same rights, privileges and responsibilities as any other. The Fraternity prioritizes educating our brothers on the common pitfalls of student life and making healthy decisions. All brothers take part in a brotherhood enrichment program that includes education and relationship building.

Joining a fraternity is a privilege, not a right. Every day you choose to be a ZBT and be a good brother. These resources can assist you in living up to your commitment to ZBT and our Brotherhood Quality Standards.

If you, your brothers, friends or chapters are facing a true emergency, call 911. If you see something, say something. If you or someone you know is subjected to hazing, call the anonymous hazing hotline at 1-888-NOT-HAZE (1-888-668-4293) or complete an anonymous online form at fraternallaw.com/help-us-stop-hazing.

ZBT’s insurance brokerage firm is Favor and Company, Inc. These partners have provided or vetted most of the resources linked below. Favor and Company provides supplemental resources for parents and families of ZBT brothers as well.

Prevention Policies and Resources

Hazing

Zeta Beta Tau prides itself that our brotherhood is built upon integrity and that all brothers, even those who are brand new, share equal rights and responsibilities.

Hazing on campus is illegal at the federal level. To combat hazing in the 1980s, ZBT chose to abolish all pledging practices as well. ZBT brothers should be initiated immediately after receiving a bid.

Hazing refers to any activity expected of someone joining a group that humiliates, degrades or risks emotional and/or physical harm, regardless of the person’s willingness to participate. Hazing is abusive, derogatory and intimidating.

Alcohol and other drugs

Alcohol and other drugs have a significant presence on college campuses.  College is a major life transition. It’s no wonder that alcohol misuse is the number one health problem among college students.

The mission of the University of Virginia’s Gordie Center is to end hazing and substance misuse among college and high school students nationwide.

Dating abuse and sexual violence

ZBT makes available education that helps college students define, identify and prevent dating abuse and sexual violence on campus.

Mental health and wellness

Each ZBT chapter has a director at the executive level dedicated to wellness and risk reduction who develops, manages and enforces procedures to reduce risk for the chapter and its brothers.

  • Resources: The Risk Prevention and Wellness Director officer manual and supplemental documents are available by logging into myZBT.
  • All ZBT undergraduates have access to the wellness services from MANUAL.care. MANUAL offers an online resource center. Brothers in the pilot receive 24/7 access to the MANUAL digital platform and 13+ hours of evidence-based videos, monthly livestreams, weekly newsletters, and access to MANUAL’s private social media channels.
